Essential Skills

"We focus on building essential skills to enable lifelong success so that one day, all students are equipped with the skills, experiences and aspirations to succeed.” Skills Builder.
The Skills Builder Partnership is an award-winning not-for-profit organisation whose programme we follow as part of our whole school curriculum.
Our goal for Skills Builder is that children develop, apply and transfer the essential skills, in any given context, by:
- practising and building the skills so that they have a high level of competency
- valuing the essential skills across the school's curriculum; and
- having opportunities to make links with further education and the world of work
Our aim is to prepare our pupils beyond the realm of primary school, opening up opportunities beyond their current life experiences. We do this through our Skills Builder Curriculum which brings the world of work into the classroom and provides opportunities to visit an array of employers and have insight to a range of careers.
Each month we have a focus on one of the eight essential skills.

Essential skills unlock learning in the classroom, boosting academic outcomes, perseverance and self belief. They halve the likelihood of being out of work, and increase earnings across a lifetime. They even boost wellbeing and life satisfaction.
But access to these skills isn’t fair. And where they are missed, it undermines social mobility, productivity and wellbeing.
We think everyone, at every stage of their lives, should have the opportunities to build them.
